Dogs Den Session Guide

While any opportunity to get out and play is usually welcome, we prefer going to events where people actually listen and provide some mutual support and appreciation. With this in mind we've given a dog's paw rating to the events listed here based on a number of criteria:
  • Friendly and welcoming,
  • Well MC'd or organised so everyone gets a fair opportunity to play and perform.
  • Listening environment - either separate room or at least most people are there for the music.
Current focus is on North Northumberland and South East Scottish Borders but were happy to cover some more if we can. If your event is not listed yet, please use the contact form and let us know. We'll soon have a doggy in disguise come and check you out!

Kelso Folk and Live Music Club -  8pm Every Friday at The Cross Keys, Kelso.
A friendly club and all genres of music welcome. It's a cross between a sing around and doing a folk club floor spot, you get put on a list when you arrive and get up in order and perform in front of the audience. Depending on numbers you may get to do 2 or 3 songs during the evening. There's usually some great players and singers and you'll get to meet some lovely people.  There's sometimes a featured spot for an act to do a 40 minute set. 4 Paws - Currently on Zoom session due to Covid Pandemic

Good ales on in the bar and bostin' mince pies at the Christmas Session. 3 Paws - Currently on Zoom session due to Covid Pandemic
Fishers Arms, Horncliffe - 8pm 3rd Monday of the month.
Currently a very popular session, so get there early to make sure of a good seat. Well hosted to cram in as much music as possible. All genres of music welcome, pop covers, traditional, original and even the odd poem. Don't confuse this with the trad tunes session which happens at the same venue but on the 2nd Monday of the month. The pub is one large room so occasional noise from the bar but a good atmosphere.  The last few sessions have been really good so keep up the good work and 4 Paws

Yes that's correct, for reasons too complicated to explain here this only happens when there's a 5th Monday in the month. A lovely venue, enthusiastic singers and well hosted. Can be busy so get there early to get a seat. Quite folky but all genres welcome and you'll hear some grand singers and you will be listened to! 4 Paws
Black Bull, Wooler - 8pm Last Wednesday of the month.
A very friendly and relaxed open mic night. It all happens at one end of the main bar. Make yourself known to either Bob or Fiona when you arrive and they'll put you on the list of performers.  The room itself is a bit of a crush if it's busy early on with folk eating and there can be a bit of disruption from this. A friendly evening and ideal for those new to performing to get in some experience with a PA and audience! 3 Paws
